Traitor Bergdahl Receiving 300k In Back Pay?

With all the news coming out about Bowe Bergdahl being a deserter/traitor, I got to thinking. Has he still been receiving his paycheck for the past five years he has spent living with the Taliban? The answer is most likely, yes. According to the Army's own website concerning POW/MIA pay:

Missing in Action (MIA) Status: "Missing" is a casualty status guided by United States Code that provides for missing members of the Military Service. Excluded are personnel who are absent-without-leave (AWOL), deserters, or dropped-from-the-rolls. A person declared missing is categorized as beleaguered, besieged, captured, detained, interned, Missing, or Missing in Action (MIA). To be categorized as MIA, the casualty is a hostile casualty, other than the victim of a terrorist activity, who is not present at his or her duty location due to apparent involuntary reasons and whose location is unknown. A Soldier who enters a missing status is entitled to the pay and allowances to which entitled when the missing status began or to which the member later becomes entitled.

Notice that it states that those who are AWOL and deserters are not eligible, but Bergdahl was never classified as a deserter or AWOL. He was first given "DUSTWUN", or Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown. It was changed to Missing after only a couple of days. Never was he listed as a POW, even after it was known that he was with the Taliban. And not only was he most likely racking up the dollars while he was gone, he was also being promoted. He was a PFC, Private First Class, when he deserted his post but he is now an E5, or a Sergeant. So if he was still being promoted, then he was also still receiving his pay.

This means that Bergdahl could be paid as much as $300,000 in back pay and special compensations. See, his back pay and hostile fire pay equals about $150,000. If he suddenly becomes classified as a POW or Captive, then he will receive special compensations that total about $148,000. Neither of these figures include interest this money would have accumulated over the past five years. What do you want to bet his duty status will be changed very soon? Recall that Obama and Hagel have already referred to Bergdahl as a POW repeatedly. It's only a matter of time before his status is changed to such "officially".
